usingenglish.com vs kahoot vs islvideolessons

2022.12.10

The magic of kahoot lies in its interactivity, individual task creation and user-friendly interface. Of all the websites I have seen, only islcollective's video lessons can offer this experience, as the same parameters apply, with the difference that a video-based solution to a task offers more creative possibilities. Recently, I discovered a new site while looking for comprehension and vocabulary exercises for my lessons. That's how I found usingenglish.com. The site functions more as a collection of explanations for different types of exercises, such as letter writing or grammar in general. However, there is a menu where you can test your knowledge, albeit with a limited number of exercises. The overall picture is a bit like a student learning a subject from the material available and then taking a test. The only thing missing is the guidance and assistance of the teacher. Although the look of the site is not as eye catching as kahoot or islcollectiv, it is simple and easy to use. Another advantage, which is also a disadvantage in terms of the number of tasks, is that the tasks are not submitted by users, but are compiled by the site's creators and correct themselves after completion. This way, the user is less likely to wonder whether his or her knowledge is really incomplete or whether the solving key is incorrect. In summary, I think that there are fewer and fewer apps or sites that support all aspects of language learning and give good feedback, but the more we learn about them, the more we can choose those that cover a wider range of learning activities as our toolbox expands. I therefore believe that the teacher will be indispensable in education for a very long time to come.
